Webinar for MDs: Single-cut Full-length Scissors Frenotomy (SFSF) for Tongue-tie

Live Webinar

for pediatricians and other medical professionals,

  • who already perform frenotomies,
  • who would like to perform frenotomies,
  • who would like to deepen their knowledge of the SFSF method.

You will gain an in-depth overview of the topic, particularly its connection to breastfeeding, nutrition, weight gain, speech, and tooth alignment. The multifactorial assessment approach, pre- and post-treatment care, and collaboration with other specialists will be presented using photos and videos.

The Single-cut Full-length Scissors Frenotomy (SFSF) will be discussed as an effective, low-threshold treatment method as gentle as possible and available for all. It will be presented for tongue-tie in all age groups, along with the specifics of this incision-based frenotomy in pediatric practice.

The treatment is as gentle as possible on both the patient and the family, which has a positive impact on post-treatment care which also takes into account the anatomy, physiology and biomechanics of tongue function. It involves neuromuscular re-education that supports learning loops.

Participants may submit case studies prior to the webinar, including description of the problem, age, complete weight data since birth, general and oral symptoms, photos / videos and your questions. You can upload them here.

Despite careful breastfeeding counseling and appropriate measures, a short frenulum may still restrict tongue movement.

An assessment of the overall situation, weight curve and tongue mobility is important for counseling, diagnosis, and follow-up care.

Single-cut Full-length Scissors Frenotomy (SFSF) performed as deeply as anatomically possible at the time of the intervention is the preferred method, as the underlying tissue remains in its original state and is not thermally injured.

Subsequent gentle movement exercises support the learning of the new tongue movement pattern and the physiological resting position of the tongue against the palate. This facilitates, among other things, proper sucking and swallowing.

  • Definitions related to the topic: various forms of tongue-tie, treatment methods, follow-up care methods
  • Anatomy, physiology, biomechanics of the tongue and the lingual frenulum
  • Multifactorial assessment approach
  • Preparation: breastfeeding counseling, speech therapy, …
  • Procedure: Single-cut Full-length Scissors Frenotomy (SFSF), technical details and videos
  • Pain management: breastmilk, for older babies local anesthesia
  • Follow-up care: breastfeeding support, gentle exercises, neuromuscular re-education, …
  • Experiences and long-term effects
  • Open questions: Does re-attachment exist? Why are multiple frenotomies necessary in some cases? …
  • Lip tie
